Behind the Scenes

Hi Friends;

Last Wed. Jennifer and Dani went on a trail ride. It was one of those rare occasions when the weather was good and they had the day off from work. It was also one of those rare times when the horses go for a ride and relax. There was nothing to correct, nothing to introduce, nothing to work on. It was in the Jungle with the herd, at ease. These are cherished rides that both the people and horses benefit from.

We have been working like crazy on getting water lines run to our home barn and get an automatic waterer set up. Helen was worried about Stormy starting to pester Dandy and Miracle. He is still playing but they are out matched by the big guy. He is bred to run, whereas D & M's little legs can outmaneuver but can't outdistance him. We wanted to have a back-up plan in case they have to move. We'll see.

It's just about time to put out the first bale. The surrounding crops have been harvested from the jungle property. This allows the horses to see past their fence. If the grass looks greener, well, you know where that leads them. Every time I see Helen's number pop up on the One Heart cell phone I instantly conclude that she is calling because she has "company" - the One Heart herd visiting through the water gap.

There are some thing in the works. Vol Eileen has picked up on my mention of having a Ride and Tie to benefit One Heart. I am going to direct readers to the Ride and Tie Association website to learn more about this adventure. There are no R&T events in the Midwest and we know lots of runners/riders who would love to participate in this activity.

I am also working on getting the Angel Tree up at our local supporters; Theisen's and Brekke's. These are our farm supply and Purina dealer, respectively. Each year they have hosted an Angel Tree. The One Heart horses' photographs are mounted on ornaments and decorate a small Christmas tree. Each horse has a wish list of items available in the store. For two years we haven't had to buy fly spray and other necessities due to the generosity of our "Santa's". This is a giant contribution to our needs. We very much appreciate the sponsors of these trees. Watch for them around Thanksgiving, if you get by. One of our good friends has essentially become "Father Christmas" for us with much needed donations (through the Angel Tree) of a set of clippers and a saddle stand. We are overwhelmed with the generosity each year.

I am also preparing for an upcoming presentation to the Kiwanis. I think the ol' powerpoint may need to be updated....

The list is long and the days are short. Until later. Kris
