Riding + Running = Ride and Tie - Are you ready?

The 4th Annual Benefit Ride and Tie for One Heart is Saturday, August 31. That folks is only 29 days away! Have you been practicing?

What is a Ride and Tie? 
It's a fast growing sport that combines elements of endurance horse riding and trail riding. A team consists of two people and one horse. The object is to cover a specified distance by having each human team member ride and run.

Our Ride and Tie has three distances: 6, 12 and 20 miles. The race will start and finish at the Heart of Iowa Trail in Maxwell, Iowa.

All the proceeds from the event help support One Heart Equestrian Therapy. You can find more information on the website or Facebook Page.

If you decide your horse (or you) aren't quite ready to tackle the race, we'd LOVE to have you volunteer and cheer on our racers! Although you could do the whole thing at a walk if you really wanted. Session One is here again!

Wow where does the time go? Session one is here again! YAY!!!!!! Here's a quick rundown of things coming up.

• Volunteer training is Thursday April 5th 6-8pm at the barn in Roland
• Farrier on Friday morning 9am - call Kris if you can help (515.460.5488)
• Work day on Saturday April 7th
• Classes for Session One start on Tuesday April 10th

Love those One Heart Volunteers

I can never remember - in 10 years - of having such a swing in weather.  If you recall, we cancelled week 1's Tuesday night classes due to a blizzard.  Today, check it out.  It's week 4 and we could have cancelled tonight for either temperature (officially 97) or heat index (I don't want to know:)  At one point we were calculating the "wind chill" of the breeze going through the arena.   Please pardon the cobwebs on the arena thermometer - and also consider it was hanging on the west wall. Maybe it was broken ?   Wishful thinking :)  

The riders and drivers were all in good shape, the horses seemed quite comfy and eager to come into the arena and the instructors had some tricks up their sleeves.  It was a good night to go over the parts of the saddle and work on transitions and reining at the walk.  I always applaud the volunteers but today a VERY SPECIAL thank you goes out to our dedicated bunch - three of whom were newcomers. 

The driving class ended with a trip to the wash rack for a shower.
